I worked with the architecture team Baratloo + Balch assisting them in planning and installing this exhibition in response to Italo Calvino's Cities & Desire 5 and the Gowanus Canal, which is near where I live and work.
"Angst: Cartography is no atlas of the abstract. Anchored to the Gowanus Canal section of Brooklyn, New York, it is site-specific and place bound. Yet, in its theoretical implications Angst can be read as a template for other places: its message is nomadic; it can be travel, be uprooted, reinterpreted, transported, and transported - again and again. It's a tectonic pictogram of thought, a primer for u-topos; i.e., a no place in which we search, as do Calvino's characters in its text, for the place of places - perhaps for placeness itself." - Dennis L.
