Life Boat

I worked with the curator Robert Mahoney and the Gallery Director to develop and install this multimedia group exhibition, which included hydroponic sculputre. The exhibition included L.C. Armstrong, Gary Bachman, Angela Bourodimos, Pietro Costa, Dan Devine, James Elaine, Samm Kunce, and Jenny Scobel.

"Life/Boat is about a state of mind in art circa 1994. The exhibit is about what happens to the life of art after the art market has collapsed. When robust, the market itself provides artists a rationale for pushing on to new ideas. Then, no one questions the role of art in life and hardly anyone notices the gap in between art and life. But when the market collapse... then we are all in a lifeboat situation. The gap between them, once a cushion of support, now gets in the way, and everyone goes off, by way of retrenchment or getting back to basics, to find out what it was they truly loved about or needed from art and not what the market incited them to bid for or think about." - Robert Mahoney
