Head Shots extends the anonymous portrait doodle into sculptural space by adapting a portrait format sometimes used during memorial processions. Large cut outs of the portraits have been mounted on to six foot tall tripods and use layered cardboard pads and Toile (French cotton printed fabic) layered with painted and drawn images. In some instances the addition of cut out shapes of Kidneys has been added. A powerful cleansing organ that references the absent body and also has a symbolic meaning related to sexual power and cycles of life and death within certain Chinese martial arts such as Chi Gung (Qi Gong) which also carry over to the contemporary transgression of physical boundaries through transplantation. In each of the pieces I make, I am searching for ways to capture off guard moments, people, ideas etc and string them together to suggest a narrative.
