"...Andrew Robinson’s works in this show overlap themes of multiple cultures, sexual identity, absence of historical presence, political awareness executed through careful nods to art history through genuine invention of beautifully crafted objects. These works remind the viewer that history is told by those in power – we must assert ourselves as individuals and communities, who have a voice and a lineage that deserves to be shared." About the exhibition
"Artist Andrew Cornell Robinson has collaborated with designers, artisans and photographers to create an installation which explores history, identity and class by resurrecting ancestral figures and casting them in a series of humorous queer scenarios. Robinson collaborated with fashion designer Sigfrido Holguin to bring to life Robinson's sixth great grandfather, a revolutionary war hero, and Holguin's great grandmother, a Dominican political radical. Couture costumes have been designed and hand crafted for each character which bring to life fictionalized narratives, visual taxonomies and sculptural heirlooms which will be on display for a revisionist history lesson. Works include photography, ceramic and mixed media sculpture, printing and apparel. Robinson's engagement with material and mythologies articulates his own revision of the world and points a light on assumptions of normalcy and power which we've inherited and continue to perpetuate today."

Brooklyn Artillery is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon to 8pm.
Sunday, 13 September, 12 noon - 8pm and continuing
Saturday, 20 September through Friday, 30 September
Starting on September 11 - October 31, Castle Braid will present the first incarnation of BROOKLYN ARTILLERY, bringing together the best of Brooklyn Arts and Music in the apartments of the new Castle Braid Building at 114 Troutman in Bushwick.
The galleries of the Williamsburg Gallery Association will populate the open apartments and chic garden duplexes of Castlebraid with works by up-and- coming and established artists. Some will reinvent and reimagine the blank canvas of a living space; others will create a bona fide miniature gallery with wine and cheese receptions and a curated rotation of works. On the ground floor and in the landscaped shade of the enclosed courtyard, performers will treat guests to a living, breathing artistic / musical experience, while on designated walls specially invited street and graffiti artists notorious to our neighborhood will have the freedom to transform without the threat of repercussion.
Press Preview - Friday, 11 September, 6pm - 7pm
The press preview will consist of a short tour of the Brooklyn Artillery at Castle Braid, followed by a guided tour throughout the art spaces of North Brooklyn. Exhibitors are encouraged, but not required, to have a representative present to answer questions.
